Similar to women the causes of infertility in men vary greatly. That being said there are certain causes of male infertility that are more common than others. Male infertility is more common than most would think. Some experts attribute 50% of infertile couple to male infertility. The most predominate reason of male infertility are both simple and complex issues that should be addressed by a physician if suspected. Chronic disease can affect the mans production of sperm. Diseases that affect a mans hormonal balance particularly can affect the production of sperm. Certain hormonal disorders may halt the production of sperm altogether. Cancer treatments can adversely affect a males sperm production as well. Chemotherapy and radiation can have both short term and long term affects on a mans fertility. Other common diseases such as Diabetes and Hypertension can also affect a mans fertility. Medications from chronic illness can cause lead to Erectile Dysfunction, hence creating a fertility issue for affected men. Increased use of pharmaceuticals has made Erectile Dysfunction a larger problem than it had been in the past. There are also anatomical reasons that may cause a man to experience issues with infertility. Various things such as injury, illness or abnormality can cause a blockage in the vessels that a mans sperm travels. Injury to a mans testicles can also affect sperm production. Men can also experience a varicose vein in their testicles that can obstruct blood flow, thus interfering with sperm production. Illness and infection can also lead to issues with male infertility. Recent infections and dating back to childhood like Mumps can have an affect on a mans ability to produce sperm. Naturally, sexually transmitted diseases can also alter a mans ability to reproduce. Additionally, a mans fertility can be affected by certain environmental exposure, both chemical and physical. Contrary to popular belief a mans ability to reproduce is just as fragile as women's. Fertility issues with men can be both simple and complex. Although not every male fertility issue can be easily solved, many treatments are available. Consulting a physician if you suspect you may be affected by any degree of an infertility issue is recommended.
