What Causes Infertility In Women

Millions of women worldwide struggle with various degrees of infertility everyday. Many are left wondering what exactly causes them to be infertile and wonder what they can do to overcome their issues. When a women initially experiences difficulty getting pregnant, knowing what the most common causes of infertility are can be very useful when trying to conceive.

Ovulation issues make up a large majority of female infertility cases. Infertility issues relating to ovulation can be as complex as complete ovarian failure to simple miscalculations in cycle charting. Many fertility issues of this nature can overcome easily with medication and physician consultation.

Often infertility is caused by simple mechanical issues relating to scar tissue. Conditions such as endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease can cause scar tissue and inflammation that may block the fallopian tubes or uterus of the affected female. There are a few different ways that physicians treat mechanical fertility issues. Scar tissue can be removed through micro or laser surgery, additionally patients with endometriosis are often treated with medications that may shrink growths.

Structural issues relating to the female anatomy can also cause infertility in women. Blockages from fibroids in the uterus and cervical issues are some examples of structural problems. Often these issues are related to previous medications or surgeries the woman may have had. DES exposure while the woman was a fetus herself can also lead to cervical instability. DES was a drug that was prescribed for problem pregnancies until the mid 1970's and has since been known to cause a multitude of medical problems. Structural issues are often treated with surgery. Although, because structural issues can vary other forms of specialized treatment may be needed to correct the problem.

Occasionally, a woman may be suffering with multiple causes of infertility. Often, a physician can determine and treat all the conditions causing a patients infertility. In rare cases a woman may suffer from infertility of unknown causes. Infertility can be a complex issue, so when a woman suspects that she may have fertility issues it is essential for her to be evaluated by a medical professional immediately. Providing a qualified specialist with a complete medical background and charting a plan of action with your chosen physician can avoid undue stress and emotional issues.
