What Is Clomid

What Is Clomid

Most women who are affected with fertility issues have heard of the drug Clomid. Clomid is one of the most popular drugs used in the treatment of infertility and is used to help women ovulate. Issues with ovulation are among the most predominate reasons why women have trouble conceiving. There are various different ovulation issues in which Clomid is prescribed. Understanding why doctors prescribe Clomid and ovulation issues Clomid is prescribed for may help you better understand your fertility issues.

Hormonal Deficiencies may cause ovulation issues leading to infertility. Certain hormone deficiencies in a woman's body will prevent her from ovulating. Generally, when a woman is not ovulating because of a hormonal deficiency her ovarian function is fine. The absence of two key hormones lutenizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone are simply preventing the woman's eggs from becoming mature and releasing.

Often women ovulate irregularly and have difficulty predicting when ovulation will occur. Without the ability to chart one's cycle conception can be difficult. Woman with irregular cycles may be encouraged to wait a designated time period of trying naturally to conceive before a physician will prescribe them Clomid.

Doctors may also prescribe Clomid for a woman with a Luteal Phase Defect. A Luteal Phase Defect is when a women has ten days or less between ovulation and her period beginning. Many women who have a Luteal Phase Defect experience early miscarriages often not even realizing the have conceived. Clomid helps this condition by helping the body increase the level of progesterone which lengthens the time between ovulation and a woman's period.

Clomid works affectively where ovulation issues are concerned for one primary reason. Clomid is similar to estrogen and it signals the body to release the hormones needed to start ovulation. Clomid does carry with its use a multitude of side-effects. Often women who take Clomid experience hot flashes, bloating, migraines and weight gain. These side-effects often steer patients away from Clomid. Clomid is a serious medication and should never be taken for an extended period of time. Woman taking Clomid should be under the care of a knowledgeable physician and should also be monitored closely.
